Chair, Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education

The Department of EMS Education offers educational programs at three nationally-accepted levels of certification, Basic EMT, Advanced EMT and Paramedic.  The Paramedic Program at USA has been training EMT’s since 1972 and has been nationally accredited by CAAHEP since 1989.  The Department also offers a Bachelor’s of Science degree program in Emergency Medical Services for paramedic students interested in advancing their careers in EMS management and leadership. 

Responsibilities for this position include direction and overall management of the Department: teaching, research, service and extramural funding development, among others.  There are ten full-time and five part-time faculty and staff in the Department, plus additional adjuncts and lab preceptors. 

Requirements for the position include:  a Master’s degree in a related field, significant academic background and outstanding leadership skills in the field of EMS, teaching experience at the college or university level, ability to manage department’s finances and budget, knowledge of national accreditation standards and requirements, excellent oral and written communications skills, and eligibility for paramedic licensure in the state of Alabama.
